Our vineyards are made of old vines that went through a long and arduous restoration process, which in a nutshell consisted on ploughing the land, replanting vines and using natural fertilizers to infuse new energy to the land, in one word to nurture the “terroir” The mencia grape variety is mostly grown in the northeast part of the Iberian peninsula since Roman times and it is by far the most popular grape variety in the Bierzo region. This variety has successfully adapted to high altitudes in lime-clay and slate terrains. Mencia grapes produce stronger wines with a deep color, mineral and fruity aromas, and it has the ability to age very well. Besides all the grape characteristics we just mentioned, we have the great advantage of being in the Valdecañada heights at 800 meters above sea level, resulting in large temperature differences between days and nites, benefiting a deep color and aroma in the grapes. All this helped by a benign climate, the perfect degree of humidity and a hydric balance. All in all we enjoy excellent climatic conditions to make a very personal wine full of “terroir” The place, the characteristics of a beautiful fruit and the enviroment that nurtures it.
